EUSA General Assembly

The 10th EUSA General Assembly took place on December 6, 2008 in Paris (FRA). The host of the event, the French University Sports Federation (FFSU), was pleased to welcome the delegates from 39 EUSA member federations. The Assembly was important for Slovenia also due to election of additional Executive Committee members, as the President of SUSA, prof. dr. Otmar Kugovnik was elected into the Board.

 

The Assembly welcomed also distinguished guests besides its members: Mr. George E. Killian, FISU President, Mr. Michel Bonfils as representative of the French Olympic Committee, Mr. Hassan Chick, the FASU President, and others.

 

The delegates accepted Georgia and Azerbaijan as the new EUSA Members, approved final reports, and agreed on the modification to the statutes. In the elections, Mr. Oleg Matytsin (RUS) was elected as the new EUSA Vice-President while Mr. Aitor Canibe Sanchez (Spain) and prof. dr. Otmar Kugovnik (Slovenia) were elected as the new EUSA Executive Committee Members.

 

EUSA also attributed three special awards. Best University Award for 2008 was given to the Russian State University for Physical Education, Sports and Tourism. Peter Baars and Pepijn Lochtenberg from the University of Vrije, NED received the Fair Play Award and Mr. Roch Campana, former FISU Secretary General was awarded the EUSA Order of Merit.

 

The EUSA Seminar for the participants of the General Assembly was organised on December 5th. More than 100 participants were welcomed by Mr. Alberto Gualtieri, EUSA President and Mr. Jose Savoye, FFSU President.

 

Mr. Savoye presented the French University Sports Federation. The second speaker was Mr. Claude-Louis Gallien, FISU 1st Vice-President, who spoke on the Sport and Higher Education and the model for the European University System. Mr. Arno Richard, FFSU Vice-President's presentation was on the International Sport Events and Discourse Analysis, while Mr. Eric Saintroind, FISU Secretary-General presented the latest news from FISU.

 

The floor was then given to Mr. Marat Bariev, Minister for Sports of the Russian Republic of Tatarstan and Vladimir Leonov, the Executive Director of the Summer Universiade 2013; who presented the games to be held in Kazan. Prof. dr. Otmar Kugovnik spoke on the project of the Winter Universiade Maribor 2013, while Mr. Arie Rosenzwieg reported on the Friendship Games in Israel.

 

In the term of the assembly, FISU hosted the press conference in Paris on which the news about the Belgrade Universiade 2009 was presented.

 

The next EUSA General Assembly will take place in Vienna (AUT) from December 4-6, 2009.
